Ayşe, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble. 罗伯特．Z．伦纳德导演的这部影片以百老汇最大的歌舞团——齐格菲歌舞团的创办人佛罗伦斯．齐格菲的生平为题材，是三十年代好莱坞歌舞片黄金时代的重要代表作之一。当时获得了第九届奥斯卡最佳影片等三项大奖，女星路易丝．莱娜演出齐格菲的首任妻子，获最佳女主角奖。齐格菲年轻时是杂耍节目中表演的艺人。1893年到百老汇发展，建立了歌舞团的知名度，1907年创办了以美女盛装演出大型歌舞著称的齐格菲歌舞团，赢得歌舞大王的称号。齐格菲一角由威廉．鲍威尔担纲演出，男女主角都表演得很好。
