Ayşe, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble. 超级黑暗时代
故事发生在上世纪90年代的一个美国小镇上。扎克和乔西从童年时就是最好的朋友，他们每天一起骑车上下学，放学后一起玩耍，甚至喜欢上同一个女孩。然而平静的生活在某天下午被彻底打破了。聚会因大麻而失控，朋友达里尔在教室里失血过多身亡，男孩们恐慌无措地要彼此发誓保密，扎克简单的生活仿佛被撕开了一道巨大的口子，整日被罪恶感压迫地喘不过气，乔西则索性不再上学，甚至不再走出家门一步。曾经密不可分的两个男孩在数日后便产生了不可逾越的鸿沟……
